Kenny Chesney Releases Music Video for his Latest Single “Reality”

Don’t we all work for the weekend? Friday kicks off the weekend and Kenny Chesney helps by making us forget about our “Reality”…at least for a minute or two.

I just saw that our good buddies over at ChesneyWorld.com posted that Chesney has just released the video for his newest single, “Reality”. It is a highlight reel of a lot of the stadium shows that get’s me pumped and ready for the next tour.

I was looking for myself in the sandbar at the Tampa show but didn’t see my ugly mug. Can you find yourself?

Thanks for taking us Coastal this year Kenny.

Foxy’s Firewater Rum – Rum Review

Oh I wish I was there tonight
On Jost Van Dyke
Sippin’ on some Foxy’s Firewater Rum

Those are a few lyrics from Somewhere in the Sun by Kenny Chesney. The island cowboy sure knows how to sweet talk our tropical, sand on the brain souls doesn’t he. I’d have to say that Somewhere in the Sun has to be in my top 5 Chesney songs. It paints the perfect picture of living in the islands and letting the stresses of “The Real World” slide away like the waning tide. What many would call “THE LIFE“.

Today we’re going to talk about the famous Foxy’s Firewater Rum from Foxy’s Beach Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. My buddy Carl from Conch Republic Bikinis was just down in the BVI and picked me up a bottle of Foxy’s Firewater Rum. Thanks Carl!

I’ve been doing a little sipping on this rum to get a feel for it. Again, I’m no rum expert, but here is a video of my take on Foxy’s Firewater Rum.

Foxy’s Firewater Rum Review

I say in the video that it ranks as a 4 out of 10, that might be a little harsh. After a little more tasting I’d probably give it a 5. Good but not over the top good.

It has a sweet aroma with hints of vanilla. The rum has a good bite at the beginning and then falls off. Not a strong after taste and like I said in the video, maybe even a little watered down.

Where can I get my hands on some Firewater Rum? I get this question a lot and mention it in the video, Foxy’s Beach Bar is the only place you can get Firewater Rum. It’s not sold in the states and they do not ship it from Foxy’s. You actually have to go to Jost, and hit up Foxy for a bottle. And when you’re there, don’t forget to pick up a bottle for your good pal RumShop!

Regardless of how the rum tastes, it’s still a great bottle to have in your collection. I won’t be drinking a lot of Foxy’s Firewater Rum because I don’t want it to disappear like so many of my other bottles. I still don’t know how that happens. Damn rum fairies.

Also, this week is the last week to vote for our buddy Carl for the Tommy Bahama Rumologist Contest. Click this link – Tommy Bahama Rumologist – and vote for Carl Grooms. He is a true Castaway and would make a great Tommy Rumologist.

If you’ve had the chance to sip on some Foxy’s Firewater Rum, whether on Jost Van Dyke or not, let us know what you thought.

Cheers to being Somewhere in the Sun,

White Bay, Jost Van Dyke – Photo Friday

Oh to be kickin’ back right now in White Bay on the lazy island of Jost Van Dyke. Jost is pretty much the playground of the entire Virgin Island, US or British. Famous beach bars, translucent water and the ever present Painkiller, it really is a Caribbean paradise.

In saying that, you wouldn’t be able to tell any of that from today’s Caribbean Photo Friday picture. I think I see one, maybe two boats in the bay. The calm for the storm. Later in the day White Bay will fill up with gleaming hulls and waving canvas, all toting day trippers wanting their time in this Caribbean playground. Sign me up.

Here is a little diddy by our friend Mr. Chesney that sums up this little island pretty well.

Somewhere In The Sun

Stuck here at a Holiday Inn near Austin, Texas
Seen all the road that I want to see
God I hate the snow, they even cancelled the show
Makes me long for where I really want to be

Oh I wish I was there tonight on Jost Van Dyke
Sipping on some Foxy’s Firewater rum
Or kickin’ back with Ivan
With all my friends down in the islands
Wouldn’t take much for me to up and run
To another life somewhere in the sun

Got cold fajitas and only one channel on the TV
Andy and Barney on Nick at Nite
Seen an ad for Mexico, God I really want to go
Anywhere out of mind and out of sight

Oh I wish I was there tonight on Jost Van Dyke
Sipping on some Foxy’s Firewater rum
Or kickin’ back with Ivan
With all my friends down in the islands
Wouldn’t take much for me to up and run
To another life somewhere in the sun

Here’s a toast to you on the coast and the sailors out at sea
Drink your ales, hoist your sails
Ride the winds and think of me, ’cause

Oh I wish I was there tonight on Jost Van Dyke
Sipping on some Foxy’s Firewater rum
Or kickin’ back with Ivan
With all my friends down in the islands
Wouldn’t take much for me to up and run
To another life somewhere in the sun

Somewhere in the sun

Funny how just reading those lyrics relaxes the soul. One of my all time favorites.  I hope all you Castaways have a great weekend, you deserve it.

Don’t forget, the new “THE LIFE” Castaway t-shirts just came out. Would love to see you represent in style!

In Need of a Little SUMMERTIME This First Day of Summer?

Today is the first official day of summer. It’s the day when that big bright ball in the sky shines on us the longest and gives us the most time get outside and enjoy the outdoors.

Summertime means freedom, it means dropping the top on that convertible and letting the wind blow through your hair. Summertime means escape, it means cashing in those vacations days, setting your sights on a shady beach on your St. Somewhere and letting your worries melt away like the ice in your rum punch. Summertime means two bare feet on the dashboard, young love in an old Ford, cheap shades and tattoo and a Yoo-hoo bottle rollin’ on the floorboard.

That last one sound familiar? I’d be disappointed if it didn’t.

Kenny Chesney’s “Summertime” continues to be a summer anthem. It’s about being free, being alive and enjoying life. Something we seek during these hot days of summer.

Kenny Chesney Summertime Video

The other months just don’t quite have what Summer has. Spring is close because the days are getting warmer and new beginnings are in the air. But Springs likes to throw curve balls at you by giving you a nice day in the 60′s or even 70′s, then a day later will dump 6 inches of snow on your head. Thanks Spring.

Fall is Fall. You might think it’s nice because it gives you a reprieve from the Summer heat and the tree leaves turn pretty colors. But if you’re anything like me you don’t want that reprieve, you want those warm days to last forever. Plus Fall is just the stepping stone to the worst of them all…Winter

I’m not even going to get into Winter. It’s the worst. Grey skies for 5 months, freezing temperatures, ice covered windshields…no thanks. You don’t see anyone writing happy sing-along songs about Winter do you? No. I despise Winter so much I moved 1500 miles away from it, to the land of the endless summer. South Florida I love you.

I hope all you Castaways have a great Summer. Tonight raise a cold one to cruising around with the rag top down and two tanned feet firmly placed on that dashboard.

Video: Kenny Chesney featuring Grace Potter – You and Tequila

If you haven’t seen Kenny Chesney’s new video featuring Grace Potter for “You and Tequila” here it is.

Whether it’s the tequila or the flawed relationship, addiction never looked as bittersweet as it does in the video for the fourth single from Kenny’s latest album, ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey. -The Boot

Video is after the commercial. Sorry.

You and Tequila Video

I think it’s a beautiful video for a beautiful song.  It showcases classic black & white clips and tells a semi-dark story about love and addiction.

I don’t want to stir the pot, but I see real chemistry between Kenny and Grace in this video. I know that it’s just a music video that’s telling a story of two troubled lovers, but the pair really sells the part well. Too well? The clips of them splashing in the waves and playing around with each other are telling. They are both either tremendous actors or there just might be a little man women chemistry going on.

Your thoughts?

Kenny Chesney Joins Jimmy Buffett On Stage in Nashville

Kenny Chesney was a special guest of Jimmy Buffett when the “Welcome to Fin Land” tour pulled into Bridgestone Arena in Nashville this past Saturday.  The two jammed out with “Come Monday” and “Back Where I Come From” (featuring Mac and Chesney).

I don’t know about you guys, but this would be one of those, “Pinch me, is this really happening” moments.

Here are a couple videos of the show when Kenny was on stage.

Come Monday – Jimmy Buffett & Kenny Chesney

Back Where I Come From – Kenny, Mac & Jimmy

Thank you to ChesneyWorld.com and BuffettWorld.com for letting us know about this great moment. Thanks to Lisa, a ChesneyWorld reader, for the videos and photo!

On The Water With Kenny’s Costa Del Mar Shades

When I first heard about the pairing between Kenny Chesney and Costa Del Mar sunglasses I thought it was the perfect marriage. Chesney spends a lot of his free time in the blue Caribbean waters and one needs some cool shades to block that neon glare. What better to do that then some cool Costa sunglasses.

I got my pair of Kenny Costas last week and couldn’t wait to take them out on the water. As a little background, I’m a cheap sunglasses kind of guy. I usually scuff, destroy, or mistakenly watch them sink to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, so no real need to get a nice pair. Polarized, what’s that? They don’t make a 12 dollar pair of polarized sunglasses so these Costas were quite the step up. Time to put on my man pants and actually take care of a nice pair.  The difference between the Costas and my run of the mill shades is night and day, especially when you’re out on the water, soaking up the warm Florida sun. The colors and water tones pop like you wouldn’t believe. Who knew our water looked like that!

I went with the Kenny Costa Rincons. The glasses have a cool interior that are uniquely Kenny. The Rincons have “Goin’ Coastal” printed on the inside, and baby, when I’m rockin’ these sunglasses I definitely feel like I’m doing just that.

The flip side of the Costas feature the iconic palm tree with guitar logo and Kenny’s printed autograph. Hard to get much cooler than that.

Kenny Costas

I first wrote about the Kenny Costas a couple weeks ago when they were first announced and showed you the super cool video that Kenny made to tell us fans about his limited addition line of shades. I love watching it and I think many of you Castaways do as well. We want to be kickin’ back in those island paradise playgrounds more than anything. And I guess having Kenny to hang out with wouldn’t be so bad either.  Here is the video encore.

If you want to get your pair of Kenny Costas and check out the other styles click this link. Kenny Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. They only did a limited run of this Kenny line so if you’re looking to get a pair don’t lollygag to long. They just might disappear with the out-going tide.

See you on the water!

Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band Tampa Concert Review

Energy. Pure Energy.

If you could hook jumper cables up to Kenny Chesney, you could probably light a small town. Honestly, I don’t know how he does it. More on Kenny’s performance later, let’s start out at the beginning.

The Goin’ Coastal shenanigans started Friday, we screamed north via I-75 to Tampa. Needed to get there in time for the No Shoes Radio live broadcast that was happening at Hooters. A traffic jam south of Sarasota tried unsuccessfully to prevent  us from reaching the fun, however it did succeed in making me lose my mind. I have places to be and corona to drink, move your ass cars!

No Shoes Radio Tampa

Tambo and Jon hosting NSR

We arrived at Hooters around 4ish with a game plan; Eat, Drink and be Merry. Mission accomplished. My group, Erin, my buddy JR and myself, met up with Carl from Conch Republic Bikinis and his friends, then fellow Castaways, Jack and Cynthia joined our table. It’s always more fun with additional trouble makers right?

Jon Anthony and Tambo were doing their thing on NSR. The house was packed and everyone was amped up by the good music, sexy Hooters girls and the huge Goin’ Coastal Corona bus sitting out side. I bet that bus has seen its fair share of shenanigans. Ticket please.

Later that night that party moved to the Green Iguana just down the street. The Iguana is a huge bar and grill tiki hut that on this night became the concert venue for Mishka. If you don’t know who Mishka is just read this and listen to some No Shoes Radio. His smooth reggae hypnotized the crowd for the rest of the night.

Mishka Tampa

It was a great day and we hadn’t even hit the main course yet. My head hit the pillow that night with visions of  rum filled tailgate parties and great music to kick off the summer with. This Castaway was ready to Go Coastal.

Saturday: Concert Day

We met our group and headed into the south parking lot just after 10am. Yes, 10 in the morning. I believe the first acts of the concert started at 4:30. That makes for a long day of fun in the sun. One needs to pace thy self to be deemed fit for concert survival. Everyone in our group was in good shape come show time, although the large Patron shot as we were packing up didn’t help. Who cares…it’s time to kick off summer time, just roll with it!

Kenny Chesney Tailgating

Tailgating with the Castaways

Our tailgate area was impressive by any standard. We had an official beer pong table complete with tournament bracket, Chesney inspired corn hole boards, 7 foot pirate cutout that that you put your head into for photos, and two tents decorated with Castaway, Chesney and Conch Republic Bikini banners. Then of course the coolers were full of Corona, Carib, Painkillers, Jager, Dark & Stormies and the aforementioned Patron. You know, just your average tailgating necessities. I call these fun primers.

We got into Raymond James Stadium a little after the Zac Brown Band went on stage. I love these guys, amazing vocals, some island inspired songs, what’s not to like.

We called the sand bar home for the next 4 or 5 hour and commandeered a great spot on the left side just steps from the extended stage. Here are a few videos and photos .

Like I said, I don’t know how he does it. The man just doesn’t stop when he’s on stage. Kenny is the definition of entertainer. He kicked things off by flying in on cables and letting “Live a Little” send us fans into a frenzy.

The night ended with Kenny and Zac playing together to form one big band. They sang Zac Brown Band’s “Knee Deep”, one of my favorites, and a few others. They ended the night rocking out to a Tom Petty cover.

I don’t have a set list for you. I was to much in the moment to write anything down.

If you don’t have tickets to see this year’s Goin’ Coastal tour, you’re missing out. Beg, plead and borrow, do what you have to do to get your hands on tickets. You’ll be sorry if you don’t. Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band and the Goin’ Coastal tour, coming to light up a city near you. Just be careful where you attach the jumper cables.
