Fort Myers Beach is the “Fun” beach here in southwest Florida. The north end of the island is full of great restaurants and fun bars, places like The Cottage, The Beached Whale, Nervous Nellies, Top O-Mast and Lani Kai.

The Fort Myers Beach webcam is on the roof of DiamondHead Beach Resort facing the north end of the beach and the Fort Myers Beach pier. The large green hotel up the beach is the Lani Kai, home of one of the best rum runners on the beach.

Not only were people glued to the TV watching what Irene was going to do, they were also jumping on the internet, searching for Caribbean webcams. RumShopRyan.com saw a huge jump in traffic while Irene was churning through the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Turks & Caicos and the Bahamas. People wanted to see live feeds of the storm’s furry.

I like to post Caribbean webcams because I want to show you guys the tranquil beaches and the dancing palms, but I guess seeing a storm rage is interesting as well.

In saying all that, I’ll keep bringing you new webcams from around the Caribbean. This week’s island webcam comes from the Mexican paradise of Cozumel. The cam is perched on a building at the Puerta Maya cruise ship port.

The Puerta Maya pier and cruise center is located on the southwestern part of Cozumel, approximately five miles south of San Miguel, the island’s largest city.

This image will refresh every 60 seconds.

I haven’t been to Cozumel yet (seems like everyone else has though). I hear the diving is good and the beaches are white and alluring. Margarita in the sun? Yes please!

Playa del Carmen, or just “Playa” as it is colloquially referred to, is the center of the Riviera Maya concept, which runs from south of Cancún to Tulum and the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve. Playa is a stop for several cruise ships which dock at the nearby Calica quarry docks, about six miles south of the city.

Tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, stretching from Calle 1 norte until Calle 40, a pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach. Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many small boutique hotels on Fifth Avenue as well as just off Fifth Avenue and on the beach, such as Luna Blue Hotel & Bar, Fusion Beach Hotel Bar & Grill, Deseo, Basico, Casa Ticul, Barrio Latino, La Tortuga and many others. With all the attention going to the north side of St. John, many forget about the tranquil calm of the south side. I’d like to put the south side in the spotlight today.

This week’s Caribbean Webcam features a view to the east over Rendezvous Bay and the south shore of St John. It’s a great webcam that puts lush tropical plants in the foreground and St. John’s rolling green mountains framed in the distance.

The webcam comes from our friends at the Great Expectations villa. The Great Room of Great Expectations looks east over Hart Bay and Rendezvous Bay to Ditleff Point and then to the south shore of St. John including Reef Bay in the distance. The villa webcam will update every 10 seconds.

The St. John villa Great Expectations is located in Chocolate Hole about 100 feet above the Caribbean Sea and has 4 equal Master bedrooms, 3 guest bedrooms, 2-1/2 swimming pools, 2 hot tubs and 1 basketball/tennis court.

As I was writing this post and watching the webcam, I saw a large island dragonfly captured by the refreshing camera. Frozen in flight for 10 seconds. Oh how I wish I could trade places with that dragonfly. Travel to St. John, hit the pause button, and freeze life in a place this beautiful. Lucky dragonfly, lucky.

Last week I saw a post from St. John Life saying there was a new webcam on St. John.   I excitedly jumped out of my chair, did an awkward cartwheel in my office, then composed myself and went straight to the site to see the new webcam.

The new St. John webcam is given to us by the Villa IntimaSea, located in Chocolate Hole. You’re able to gaze over several different bays and take in the blue waters of the Caribbean.

Many of us are bonkers for St. John. We are seduced by it’s slow pace of life, natural beauty and its charming towns and people. We routinely visit popular St. John webcams like the famous Spice Cam in Cruz Bay or the Skyridge webcam that looks north towards Tortola. But they only give us a taste, a small glimpse of a sought after paradise. It’s just enough to keep the island in the forefront of our travel plans and even life plans.

Cooper Island is 1½ miles long by ½ mile wide, and sits about five miles south of Tortola. Tiny and unspoiled, Cooper is free from roads, loud nightclubs, shopping malls and crowds. The house at Quart-A-Nancy Point is one of only a few private homes on Cooper Island. It was built in the 1960s and 70s as an artist’s retreat.
