After one sip, you’ll get the urge to merge.

This week’s Boat Drink recipe is called the Cranberry Kiss. I’ll tell you straight up that Cranberry and I have had words. Drinking it makes me quiver and I can’t even look at the stuff come Thanksgiving. So why are we doing a cocktail recipe that has Cranberry in it? Because about 60% of RSR readers are beautiful women and rumor has it that women love Cranberry drinks. I might be stereotyping a little bit, but I see no harm. Just giving the audience what they want, right ladies!

If you’re a guy and are a fan of Cranberry drinks that’s cool. Are you willing to leave a comment below and let us all know you are? Yeah, I wouldn’t admit it either.

The Cranberry Kiss Drink Recipe

Ingredients:

1.5oz. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum (Cruzan 9 works well also)

1oz Sour Mix

1oz. Club Soda

2oz. Cranberry Juice

Mixing Instructions: Add all the ingredients into a highball glass with ice. Stir and garnish with lemon wedge. Raise glass and toast.

Let me know if you mix up the Cranberry Kiss and what you thought of it. If you tell me it’s the greatest drink ever, well then I’ll just have to take your word for it.

Cheers!

After one sip, you’ll be hoisting the sails.

Rum and pirates, pirates and rum. They are forever linked by legend and Hollywood. The combination had Jack Sparrow–excuse me–Captain Jack Sparrow talking in bizarre riddles and it has been romanticized and marketed by rum companies big and small. The biggest and most well known being Captain Morgan.

Our pirate friends and Captain Morgan have recently came out with a new rum called Captain Morgan Black. At 95 proof, this over proof rum has plenty of kick in the pants but you wouldn’t know it by the taste. It has a rich smooth taste that is perfect for sipping and mixing. Being that today is Boat Drinks day, I think we need to do a little mixing with Captain Morgan Black.

We will be creating a drink called The Port Royal Smash, created by Castaway Jeremy M. Jeremy has sent me at least a dozen recipes in the past year all of which are creative and taste great. I think we need to put him on the imaginary RumShop payroll and hire him as the official mixologist. Thanks for the recipe Jeremy, keep them coming.

Port Royal Smash

Ingredients:

2oz Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum

1 1/4 oz Vanilla Rum

4oz Pineapple Juice

2oz OJ

Splash of Grenadine

Mixing Instructions: Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Shake well. Strain into glass with ice. Raise glass and toast.

Let us know if you’ve tried the new Captain Morgan Black and what you thought. I’ve only had a couple samples from the Rum Renaissance Festival, but a one legged parrot just landed on my shoulder and said that more pirate rum is just over the horizon. Let’s hoist those sails and point her west, we be chasin’ the firewater mates!

Cheers,

After one sip, you’ll be rowing to the islands.

Is it possible to be tired of rum? After a weekend of sipping on rums from all around the world, one’s taste buds might be waving the white flag. Am a speaking heresy? Yeah, maybe a little bit. The Rum XPs that were there all week might be singing a different tune though. I will tell you the cold Corona I had for dinner at Bella Cuba that Saturday day night tasted damn good. A nice contrast to tidal wave of rum.

Today’s Boat Drink day, so we’re going to do a rum recipe from our friends at Barritt’s Ginger Beer. They had a booth at the Rum Renaissance Festival and were serving a variety of cocktails made with their famous ginger beer. I think many of us associate Barritt’s Ginger Beer with the Dark N’ Stormy cocktail and Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. But while talking with the folks at the Barritt’s booth, it was clear that they were trying to expand their brand to other drinks and brands of rum. They didn’t even have Gosling’s rum on the table. I still ordered a Dark N Story but with Chairman’s Reserve rum, just not the same.

To help support Barritt’s goal of becoming a mixer for many different types of cocktails, I thought we’d tackle a drink called the Caribbean Buc. Why is it called the Caribbean Buc? I have no idea. Let’s just mix it up and pretend we’re all on the beach sipping away.

The Caribbean Buc Drink Recipe

Ingredients:

1.5oz 10 Cane Rum

2oz Mango Juice

1 Squeeze of lime juice from half a lime

3oz Barritt’s Ginger Beer

Mixing Instructions: Add all ingredients to ice filled mixing glass. Shake. Strain into glass of ice. Garnish with lime wedge. Raise glass and toast.

Let me know if you mix up a Caribbean Buc and what you think of it. Love getting other people’s take on these drinks.

Cheers to hump day!

After one sip, you’ll be crowing with the Key West roosters.

South Florida is awash in rum right now and today’s Boat Drink recipe comes from two rum experts whom are currently in Miami, working hard by judging rums from all over the world. I really need to apply for that gig. Want to join me?

Let’s watch rum expert Bahama Bob, who man’s the bar at the famous Rum Bar of Key West, and Rum Connection Mike, behind the camera, mix up an original creation called the Pango Keys Cocktail. Bahama Bob and Mike often get together and create new drinks in a process they call the Rum Lab. Made with a Haitian rum called Rhum Barbancourt, the Pango Key is a product of the popular Rum Lab and is sure to put a smile on your face.

The Pango Keys Cocktail

Pango Key Recipe

Ingredients

.5oz Lime Juice

1.5oz Barbancourt 3 Star Rhum

.75oz Barbancourt Pango Rhum

.5oz Grapefruit Juice

.75oz Falernum

2 drops of Agave Nectar

Mixing Instructions: Mix all ingredients into mixing glass with ice. Shake well. Strain into glass with ice. Garnish with lemon. Raise glass and toast.

I haven’t had the pleasure of tasting this adult beverage yet, but I’ll bet you a round of drinks that the next time I’m in Key West, bellied up to the Rum Bar, I’ll be ordering a Pango Key.

After one sip, you’ll be hiding your eyes.

There’s only one type of banana hammock I want to see on the beach, and that’s the cocktail. I wrote about “Beach Ethics” a while ago and banana hammocks are definitely one of those unwritten rules that should not be broken, at least not in the States. No one wants to see your bulge buddy!

A Boat Drink called the Banana Hammock, that’s another story. Castaway Jeremy McDaniel sent me this recipe the other day and I thought it would make a great post. Humorous name, mouthwatering ingredients and a perfect way to cool down with the heat of Summer knocking on the door.

The Banana Hammock Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Cruzan Dark/Gold Rum (any rum would work)

1 oz Cruzan Coconut Rum

3/4 oz Banana Liqueur

3oz Pineapple Juice

2oz OJ

Mixing Instructions: Add all the ingredients to an ice filled glass. Shake. Garnish with banana slice. Raise glass and toast.

Fruit mixers and rum, you really can’t go wrong. Let me know if you mix up a Banana Hammock and if you like the taste. Oh, and please no emailing me banana hammock photos, the real ones I have in my dresser are all I need. Ha!

After one sip, you’ll sail across the ocean for another.

If you were to ask any salty Caribbean soul what their favorite island cocktail is, you might get a few different answers. I’m guessing Rum Punch, the Bushwacker and the Killer Bee would all be on the list with a few others. But I’m willing to bet good money that the majority of people would say, without a doubt…the Painkiller.

I wrote about and posted the recipe for the famous PainKiller way back in 2009. It was one of my first posts and rightfully so. An island concoction that we Castaways hold so dear to our hearts deserves a little more time in the sun. So I packed up the Pussers Rum and the other PainKiller ingredient, jumped aboard my buddies boat, the Gypsy Soul, and headed North along the backside of Sanibel, Captiva and North Captiva islands. After about an hour and a half of cruising we beached on the soft sand of Cayo Costa to lime away the day. The perfect place to shoot a video for the perfect drink.

The PainKiller

Soggy Dollar Bar Pain Killer Recipe:

2 oz Pussers Rum

1 oz cream of coconut

4 oz pineapple juice

1 oz orange juice

Mixing Instructions: Add all the ingredients to mixing glass. Shake well. Pour into glass with ice. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top. Raise glass and toast.

As you all know, ground zero for the PainKiller is the Soggy Dollar Bar on the island of Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. No stay in the BVI is complete without hitting the sands of White Bay and drinking a few PainKillers at the Soggy Dollar. It’s nearly a religious experience.

If you have a good PainKiller story tell us about it below.

Cheers!

After one sip, the only thing you’ll be wearing is flip flops.

Well, it might take more than just a sip for me to lose my clothes, but after a few of these Naughty Margaritas anything is bound to happen. Today we are doing a margarita cocktail recipe, can’t drink rum drinks all the time can we? Well, maybe we can– but it’s a nice to toss in a little tequila now and then.

This margarita recipe is for blender proportions, so grabs some friends and let’s get to mixin’.

Naughty Margarita Recipe

1/2 cup Sour Mix

1/2 cup Orange Juice

1/3 cup Grapefruit Juice

1/2 cup of Margaritaville Tequila

Mixing Instructions: First salt the rim of the glasses. Add the ingredients to blender along with 15-20 ice cubes. Blend until smooth adding ice if needed. Pour into glass and garnish with lime wedge. Raise glass and toast.

How many of you Castaway have one of those snazzy Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker? Let me know because I’m on my way to your house to mix up some Naughty Margaritas!

After one sip, you’ll be sinking into the blue hole.

Belize, located on the Western side of the Caribbean and is home to the second largest reef on our blue marble. I have yet to venture to its tropical shores, but as the days tick my the pull grows stronger. With our buddy from Rum Connection just returning from Belize and another buddy Shawn leaving soon, it seems like the place to be. With a ultra laid-back vibe and some of the best diving in the Caribbean, how could it not be.

I’ve heard crazy stories of Belizean Viper Rum and something called Cashew Wine that will put hair on your chest. These might have been conjured up to entice crazy gringos, but hey, when in Rome right? Since today is about Boat Drinks and most of us don’t have Viper Rum laying around the house, we’ll do another drink from Belize…the Belize Rum Punch. Can’t go wrong with a good rum punch!

Belize Rum Punch Recipe

2 shots light rum

2 splashes grenadine syrup

1 shot dark rum

top with pineapple juice

1 shot orange liqueur

1 shot sweet and sour mix

1 shot cream of coconut

Mixing Instructions: Fill tall glass with ice. Add first 5 ingredients then top off with pineapple juice. Shake thoroughly. Add a dash or two of grenadine, stir gently. Raise glass and toast.

What’s the history of this cocktail? Why does it claim to be from Belize? Honestly, I have no idea! It’s a great combination of rum and mixers and tastes like paradise, so why not give it some love.

Let me know what you think when you mix yourself up a Belize Rum Punch.

After one sip, you’ll be dancing to the Banana Wind.

My parents paid casa de RumShop a visit a few weeks ago. When they walked into the Sand Trap (my office), and saw the slightly larger than normal collection of rum bottles, my mother commented in a slightly disturbed voice, ” Umm wow, that’s a lot of alcohol.”

I proudly reply, “Yes, yes it is.”

One has to have a good assortment of rums and mixers to prepare a wide array of Boat Drinks. To the untrained eye it may look like I’m in need of a ride to the rehab clinic. But in true Castaway style, the evidence is a necessity and just another tool of the trade. No problem here mom! Thirsty? And on that note, who’s ready for a new Boat Drink recipe!?

This week’s recipe comes from Castaway Jeremy McDaniel, and it’s called the Banana Boat. I don’t know what it is about banana flavored cocktails, but it’s like drinking a tall glass of vacation. I’ll take two please.

Banana Boat

1 1/2 oz Cruzan Coconut Rum

1oz Cruzan Light Rum

4oz Cranberry Juice

1/2 oz lime juice

3/4oz Banana liqueur

Club Soda

Mixing Instructions: Shake all but club soda, strain and top with soda. Raise glass and toast.

Mix this boat drink up and give it a try. Let me know what you think. Love hearing your feedback on drink recipes.

After one sip, you won’t know which way to move the clock.

Spring forward Fall back, or is it Spring back Fall forward…I can never get it right. Today is the day we change our clocks for Daylight Savings Time. Is it the end of the Daylight Savings or the beginning? Another thing I can’t figure out. That’s why I rely on adults who are smarter than I to tell me what to do with my clocks on this day. My time management skills are a joke.

I was sent this Boat Drinks recipe and thought it would be perfect for a day like today, it’s called the Cruzan Carpe Diem. If you’re Latin is a little rusty it means “Seize The Day”…with Cruzan. After drinking a couple of these I’m sure your time management skills are going to resemble mine, but who cares, we have more sunlight in our days now. More time to spend outside on the beach.

The Cruzan Carpe Diem is a blend of fruit juice, carbonation and rum that will put your “seize the day” butt in gear now that we’ve magically lost an hour of your day. Or is gained? EEEERRRRR. But don’t despair, this Boat Drink will make you forget your clock-lag in no time. And if that doesn’t work, try stirring the drink counterclockwise and watch as the colors swirl together like a timewarp, maybe it will help you get those 60 minutes back. Sort of like jumping in Emmit Brown’s Delorean…but with rum!

Cruzan® Carpe Diem

Recipe by Jesse Card

Ingredients:

1½ parts Cruzan® Mango Rum

½ part Cruzan® Orange Rum

1 part Orange Juice

Dash of Grenadine

Club Soda

Lime wedge

Mixing Instructions: Pour rum and orange juice into a Collins Glass filled with ice and give it a quick stir to combine. Add a few dashes of grenadine then top it off with club soda. Squeeze a wedge of lime on top to finish. Raise glass and toast.

Cheers to not caring about any time, but Island Time.
