Why I Write
Close your eyes and remove yourself from the everyday. Picture your toes sinking into the sand as the waves kiss your ankles. It’s a serene feeling that everyone should experience. I live a little bit of that life, living on the coast of southwest Florida and escaping to Caribbean to find adventure and inspiration whenever possible. If you have a love of the Caribbean and the island lifestyle then you have come to the right place. It’s my passion to share the beauty of the island with you. Welcome aboard.
Who Is RumShopRyan
My name is Ryan and I hale from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001 and have never looked back. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kansas City area and am a huge Chiefs and Jayhawks fan (Royals too but it’s difficult) but the coastal life was calling. Kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music or the island life in general, I’m going to write about it.
When traveling to the Caribbean, the camera around my neck and the note pad in my pocket are my best friends. I document the experience in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Do you love traveling to the Caribbean, do you love listening to Buffett, Chesney, Marley and other island vibes? Do you stare at photos of stunning beachscapes and imagine yourself there? Do you love rum, tropical cocktails and beach bars? If you said yes to any of these questions then you are a Castaway.
A Castaway is what we call RumShopRyan readers. They are Parrotheads, island dreamers, members of No Shoes Nation and everything else tropical all rolled into one.
Why the name RumShopRyan? Because rum is good and it makes me happy. Seriously though, I chose the name because of what a rum shop is. In the Caribbean, rum is king. The island have places called rum shops were friends come to socialize or “lime” as they call it. People from all walks of life just conversing over a flask of rum as equals. That’s what I want RumShopRyan.com to be, a place for beach and Caribbean loving people to come and share their love of the salt life.
