Key West Songwriters’ Festival, May 1-5

Key West Songwriters Festival

Celebrating its 18th year, The Key West Songwriters Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the world. May 1-5, Key West will be transformed into a musical paradise. Since 1997 BMI has been a charter sponsor of the festival and has helped it grow into both a tourist attraction and favorite of island locals.

The festival revolves around five days and nights of more than 20 free shows, staged at an array of the island’s most popular drinking holes and hot spots, where live music bliss introduces crowds to the faces, voices and stories behind the songs. There are so many great artists that I can’t list them here. Click here for full list of performers. Click here for show schedules and locations.

Diverse lineups featuring more than 100 top songwriters deliver rare, “Key West-only” moments: Informal adaptations of Nashville’s signature in-the-round acoustic showcases dominate much of the schedule, while a main event street concert puts the cherry on top of a fantastic 5 day event.

I was able to hop on the Key West Express last year and attend the Key West Songwriters Festival. I rented a bike and rode from show to show to show, bouncing all over the sun drenched southern most island. It really was quite the experience, listening to the songwriters tell the stories behind their songs, then perform them in places like Smokin Tuna, Blue Heaven and even on catamaran sailing through Key West harbor. Here are a few videos of last year’s performances.
