Photographing Models On The Beach

Shellback Rum

I love to photograph models. Their sleeks lines tease the lens while the warm sun gleams off their smooth skin. Passerbys stop and stare as I reposition their sexy bodies. Only my models aren’t leggy blondes and sultry brunettes. They are fine bottles  of rums and they look fantastic in the sand. Probably a little easier to work with as well.

Several weeks back I loaded up three of my models and hit the sand and shells of Bonita Beach. The Gulf of Mexico was calm as can be and the air was crisp. If you could paint a perfect day this might be it. My models on this day were a bottle of Foxy’s Firewater Rum and Shellback Silver and Spiced rum.

I positioned them here and there, trying to capture the sun and the shells perfectly. I think a few of these shots turned out pretty well although I’m not going to take the credit. All the credit goes to the find bottles of rum. They were so alluring, even a White Egret was begging for a taste. Remember the story of Earl the rum loving egret?

Here are a few of the better shots that I wanted to share with you. There’s just something about a bottle of rum on the beach.

    Great shots!
I suspect some of the contents of the ‘models’ were consummed prior to the ‘shoot’ judging by the sloping horizons?
    Perfectly understandable

Whilst I am a professional photgrapher my Caribbean ‘modes on the beach’l shoot was a complete suprise.

A few years back ’99 or 2k can’t quite remember which I was on holiday in Tobago (Trinidad & Tobago) & was walking along this beach early one morning just taking a few holiday ‘snaps’ for myself. When I noticed the beach was unusually busy for that time of the morning, not only that, it appeared there were only beautiful bikini clad young women playing in the surf & a few guys on the beach taking photographs.
So naturally I raised my camera to get a few beauties for album & all of a sudden some of the girls started to perform for my camera, repeatedly running in & out of the surf throwing a few poses, sngles, couple ,groups WOW I couldn’t believe it. Normally I only get to shoot this in the studio back home in England!. At this stage I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t still in bed dreaming (it was a heavy night on the rum previous evening) or I’d died & gone to heaven, but no this was for real.

So after a few rolls of film (remember that) I decided I’d had enough, thanked the girls & carried on with my stroll.

I subsequently found out the ‘Miss World’ contest was in town & I’d stumbled upon the press- promo shoot & they must have mistaken me a Press Photographer.

Couldn’t wait to get home to see what results I had! Had a few rums t the bar whilst telling the story to anyone who’d listen.

    Happy days!

    Regards P-J
keep up the good work Ryan.

I’m quite jealous of the Foxy’s, Kenny always makes it sound so good.

  4. Kenny, photos from boat charters, people staying on Jost…they all make it sound like pure heaven. Thanks for the comment ThorneStockton!

Is the Foxy’s Rum from the great man on Jost Van Dyke, BVI?
Had a great time with him many years ago as I sailed round the BVIs.
Happy memories of the ‘Soggy Dollar, Quito’s, Soper’s Hole et al. Oh for a boat & a fair wind!

Re the photos of the Miss World contetstants in T n T.

I haven’t seen them myself in a while. Negs/prints who looks at them these days?
Must sort them out if I have already chucked ‘em out?

    Cheers
