Right Time, Right Place. A Moment With A Hero

Right time, right place. Looking back at some of your fondest memories, can you recall a memory when you shared a special moment with a hero? I know heroes come in all shapes, sizes and professions. I’m talking about musical heroes here.

I was combing through the overwhelming video library that is YouTube, searching for random Caribbean clips. All the sudden, I found myself staring starry eyed at the screen watching a larger than life personality entertain a small intimate group of people in a bar. I saw magic. Right time, right place.

Jimmy Buffett is known for popping into bars and restaurants to play a couple tunes for the lucky guests. That’s exactly what happened to some lucky people on St. Barts. One thing that makes him great is the way he pulls you into his songs. He is a master storyteller and knows how to seduce his audience. Watch these videos as Buffett plays an impromptu gig at the BAZ Bar on St. Barts. Right time, right place.

Pretty amazing memories for those lucky few. Do you see how he draws his audience in? Those people are going to go back to their lives and jobs feeling like a million bucks. They are going to have stories to tell for a lifetime. They are going to have memories so thick they’ll have to wipe them away from their faces.

One thing I’d like to do before growing old and gray is to see one of my heroes in a small intimate setting like this. Electricity flying through the air, child like giddiness on everyone’s face and a shared magical moment with friends, strangers and one hero. That’s what I want. That’s what I wish for. I hope for that right time, right place moment.

Cheers,

All my trips to Key West… I used to hope for this to happen!!! Great videos- THANKS!!

  2. Thanks Sharon!

  3. Ryan, nice link, I kind of had this happen to me once, about 25 people in a bar in St. Thomas with a Karaoke contest and a women sings “We Are Family”, although not a big fan, I knew she nailed it, I commented to the group I was with that she was really good. Turns out she should be good, it was one of the sisters from Sister Sledge.

I was in Chicago just a week ago at the Toyota Park Jimmy concert. What I love about Jimmy’s music is how quick it can take me back to a beach bar in the Caribbean or to a sail boat on the way from St. Thomas to St. John.

I have been wondering about the what I would say if he showed up sitting next to me in an airport or bar, something to think about.

  4. Thanks for the comment Jerry.

I too have wondered what I would actually say to Buffett or Chesney if I actually met them. I would hope I’d play it cool and just buy them a beer or something, but who knows!

  5. We were in St Barts for the Le Select celebration and the whole trip didn’t disappoint. We were in very front and center for the concert and had the time of our lives. We did make youtube on show day. That was exciting. Wish I could say we caught JB playing at Baz that night but were missed him. I can’t remember the name of the group he played with that are in the video. They were really good. The blonde was from Ind. Nice guys. Note that Baz is pretty small and was packed. There is a longboard signed by JB on the ceiling too. Le Select is a wonderful place also. Marius and JB are good friends and you could see the love they share after the show. We felt privileged to have shared that moment with them.

St Barts is a wonderful island destination and we plan on going back again soon. Peace

  6. Great story Shirley!!! I’m so glad you left a comment. Truly great to hear from someone that was at his concert. It sounds like an amazing experience.

I have not yet been to St. Barts, but I see it in my no so distant future.

    Cheers my friend!

  7. Thanks so much Ryan for the opportunity to even see this video! I’m way down here in Australia and would love to see Jimmy live! The best I have had is his music videos! One day Jimmy I’m gonna see you live….hopefully!

  8. Thanks for the comment Jenn! If you do make it to one of his shows you will remember it forever. They’re quite the experience. Good luck!

  9. Ryan, St Barts……definitely pencil it in on your bucket list. The island is expensive but there are some nice places to stay that are not a budget breakers.
Autour Du Roche has magnificent views and of course a nice cold Carib from Le Select is a must too.

Jenn, JB mentioned Australia at one of his recent past concerts. Keep you ear to the ground. Hope you get your wish.

  10. Sailed into St Barts in December 1994. Jimmy came on board the boat I was working on for a casual visit with Captain Tommy! I, being a huge fan of his since I was 10 (1974) nearly fell over before making him a cup of tea…He came out for a day sail with his family and friends, including Captain Groovy , then later in the week did an impromptu at Le Select. Of course this couple of events went down in my lifetime as never to be topped, even though I have had some truly amazing travel/life experiences and i adore my family and friends… However, to date nothing really has topped meeting Jimmy and seeing him live…

  11. Wow! Great story Dianne. I’m pretty sure I would of fell of the boat with you! Thanks for sharing.

  12. Heading to Portland OR. to see Jimmy this week watching these video’s got me so excited to see him and soak in his music and the good times! I have to agree seeing him in an intimate setting like a small bar would be over the top! My dream is to be at Foxy’s or any bar along White Bay in the BVI and have Jimmy or Kenny show up and play a few songs!

  13. For sure! I would love to see those guys in the islands. I think if that happened and I got hit by a truck the next day I would die a happy man. Cheers!

  14. Oh Dianne what a great story. How lucky for you to get to meet Groovy and well of course Bubba!!! You can mark that one off your bucket list.

We are lucky enough to be able to go back to St Barts again next year. If any of you ever go Autour has to be on your bucket list. The views are unbelievable. What a great place to be a part of “in the day”.

Now if we could just catch him in Baz!!
